Signs of the old iron working, and charcoal industry of Andorra can also still be spotted in the woods of this park.

There are lots of treks of varying lengths and levels throughout. Including parts of the GR7, GR11, and GRP, plus three refuges for optional accommodation.

One of the most characteristic routes, and one of the most beautiful of all Andorra parks, is that which follows the old stone path, joining Andorra to France and Spain.

Sorteny Valley Nature Park:

This 1,080 hectare Nature Park is within the Andorran parish of Ordino. It is a wonderful reserve which boasts a great level of biodiversity with over 700 different species of flowers and plants, 50 of which are endemic to the Pyrenees mountains.

For centuries in Andorra locals have collected many of these species to be used for their medicinal properties (eg. arnica, cumin, gentian, thyme, etc.), and others to be eaten (wild rasberries, red currants, kermes oak, water cabbage, etc.)

Traditional life in the Ordino Valley, and the picking of Pyrenees mountains plants and flowers, can be explained by Andorra park mountain guides and flora specialists, or by simply reading the various explanatory signs posted throughout the hiking trails and at the botanical garden.

Estanyó Lake is located at 2,339 metres high, has some spectacular views over one of the prettiest Andorra parks, and is definitely worth the trek up.

Comapedrosa Valley Nature Reserve:

Six mountain lakes, waterfalls, natural springs and various peaks, including the highest in all Andorra parks- Comapedrosa (2,942 metres), create a grand glacial landscape that is the Comapedrosa Valley Nature Reserve.

The Reserve is in the parish of La Massana, in the north west of the Andorra Pyrenees mountains.

There are vast networks of paths for trekking and 3 mountain refuges- one at Les Fonts (2,230 m), the Joan Canut refuge (2,400 m) at Pla de l’Estany, and the Comapedrosa refuge with a warden (2,260 m) near Les Truites lake.

All kinds of Andorran alpine and subalpine flora and fauna are found here. Along with evidence of early settlers in the area, in the form of old huts, cabins, troughs, terraces made around the mountains, and dry-stone walls.

If you’re lucky, while here, you might catch a glimpse of the Pyrenees mountains Chamois, a mountain goat, golden eagle or bearded vulture.
